Rocks on the Roof
Miracles abound in Ethiopia. God is doing strange and wonderful things to bring his people into His Kingdom. A married couple living in a small village struggled tremendously. The husband beat his wife and was drunk nearly all of the time. The home was far from happy; the wife lived in constant fear. One night they heard rocks falling on their roof. The husband saw nothing when he went outside to investigate. Night after night rocks fell, pounding their tin roof. The husband tried to confront their tormenter but no matter how quick he was to get outside, no one was ever there. In desperation, the wife sought out the church planter that had come to their village. They had never given it much thought or attention in the past but in light of their current situation, she felt she had no other place to turn. Who would believe an invisible hand was throwing rocks at their roof? The church planter told her about Jesus. He explained the Gospel and then he prayed for their specific problem. No rocks fell that night or the next. The woman told her husband where she had gone, and about the prayer. They both gave their lives to Christ. The husband turned from alcohol and never again abused his wife, and the rocks stopped crashing onto their roof.
In Exodus 3:1 – 4, we read this: Moses was pasturing the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of Mideon, and he led his flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. The angel of the Lord appeared to him in a blazing fire from the midst of a bush and he looked, and behold the bush was burning with fire yet the bush was not consumed. So Moses said, “I must turn aside now and see this marvelous sight why the bush is not burned up.” When the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses”, and he said, “here I am.”
The Lord will do the most amazing things to get our attention and when He does our response must always be surrender.
