Dying Inmate Healed

One particularly challenging day, when he was about to commit suicide

Revival in Cuba: God’s Power at Work

Cuba is experiencing a great revival.

God is moving powerfully in prisons, hospitals, and orphanages across the country. In the district of Holguín, the fastest-growing church movement in Cuba is taking shape.

In 2009, church leaders launched a chaplaincy ministry that quickly spread across the island. Today, over 2,000 chaplains serve in communities throughout Cuba.

Before this ministry, churches had no access to prisons. But miraculously, the doors swung open shortly after 2009. Now, chaplains minister in 170 prisons across the country, where they preach the Word of God to 15,000 prisoners every year.

Between 15% and 20% of those inmates surrender their lives to Christ.

A Bible That Changed Everything

One of these prisoners is Martin.

His life was once a complete disaster. Addicted to drugs and abandoned by his family, he kept making the wrong choices until he finally landed in prison.

Even behind bars, his addiction continued.

One particularly dark day, suicidal and hopeless, Martin overheard an inmate say with excitement:

I exchanged six cans of sugar for a Bible!”

Something inside Martin stirred.

Desperate to get his hands on God’s Word, he traded away the little food he had in his cell for a Bible.

And that decision changed everything.

A Life Transformed

As Martin read, the Word of God began transforming him.

Little by little, his life changed. First, he walked away from drugs. Then, he gave up cigarettes.

When he met one of the chaplains, his faith deepened. He learned what it truly meant to follow Christ.

Martin couldn’t keep the Good News to himself. He started sharing his journey of redemption with other prisoners, telling them about their need for a Saviour.

Because of his testimony, many inmates gave their lives to Jesus.

A New Creation in Christ

During a special weekend pass out of prison, Martin visited his hometown.

But when he reconnected with his community, no one recognized him.

The same man they once knew—broken, addicted, and lost—was now joyful, full of peace, and completely transformed.

When they asked how he had changed so dramatically, Martin joyfully told them about Jesus.

Today, he shares the Gospel every chance he gets.

Whatever the future holds, he knows his calling is clear: to preach the Word of God.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away, behold, new things have come.”
2 Corinthians 5:17

From the moment Martin decided to follow Christ, he became a new person.

His poor choices, addictions, and despair were left behind.

That is the promise we can all hold onto.
