Then God stepped into Joseph’s tumultuous thoughts and sent him a vision.
In the country of Burma, 89% of the population identify themselves as Buddhist. Joseph grew up in a Burmese home that practiced Buddhism and hated Christianity. He turned his passion for the spiritual into a profession and he became a fortune teller. Everyone knew about Joseph and his talent as a palm reader, not only in Burma but in Thailand, as well. Even with such fame and importance, Joseph was unhappy and dissatisfied with his life. He decided to investigate Christianity to see for himself why such people remain so steadfast in their beliefs. As he studied the Bible, he saw immediately how different Christianity was from Buddhism and astrology. He felt great confusion over everything he was reading and couldn’t understand what was more powerful, Jesus or astrology. Then God stepped into Joseph’s tumultuous thoughts and sent him a vision. He saw Jesus with a light shining on his face and immediately peace flooded his thoughts. He asked Jesus to show him something amazing if he were indeed alive. During this time in Joseph’s life the country of Burma was in distress and very unstable. Violent rebel groups roamed the countryside wreaking havoc. Joseph had to flee to the jungle with others from his village. He challenged the Lord and said, “If you indeed control the moon, stars, and sun, surely you can save my life.” Moments after his prayer, the rebels charged into the jungle to attack the villagers, and all night Joseph and the others fought them off. He dodged bullets and remained alive despite the many others who did not survive the assault. God’s protection of his life was a direct answer to prayer and Joseph turned to Jesus right then, with a promise to follow Him forever. Despite his fame as a fortune teller, Joseph walked away from that life and now tells everyone about the one true God that protected him from death and showed him the truth.
In Romans 8:38 – 39 we have this promise: For I am convinced that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Nothing can separate Joseph from God’s love. He now lives his life for the One who created the Heavens and the earth and all that is within them.
